An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 7 minutes ago 70 km south of Manta, Ecuador, the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday 4 November 2020 at 2.46 am local time. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Jipijapa (pop. 35,900) located 36 km from the epicenter, Paján (pop. 9,200) 40 km away, Sucre (pop. 15,300) 54 km away, Montecristi (pop. 18,400) 62 km away, Santa Ana (pop. 12,800) 63 km away, Portoviejo (pop. 170,300) 70 km away, Manta (pop. 183,200) 70 km away, and La Libertad (pop. 75,900) 73 km away.

A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early morning near the village of Hopedale, Canada.
According to NRCAN, the quake hit on Wednesday 4 November 2020 at 2.52 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The magnitude, exact location of the epicenter, and depth of the quake are likely to be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Hopedale (pop. 600) located 57 km from the epicenter.

Just 4 minutes ago, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Willits, California. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Tuesday 3 November 2020 at 9.41 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.7 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.

Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cloverdale (pop. 8,800) located 41 miles from the epicenter, and Clearlake (pop. 15,200) 44 miles away.

Just 7 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near the village of Hopedale, Canada. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday 4 November 2020 at 5.35 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by NRCAN, the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Hopedale (pop. 600) located 66 km from the epicenter.
